Termite Identification

Do you need help with termite identification? Here are some handy pictures and graphics to help accurately identify termites.

Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites are the most commonly encountered termite in Tennessee. Subterranean termites create their colonies in the ground and move around trying find food sources for the colony. If a colony gets close to your home they will build mud tunnels along the foundation (or within the foundation if you have cinder block) to find food sources. Sentricon is a service we use to bait the colony in order to treat and kill before they get close to the home.

Dampwood Termites

Dampwood termites like, well, damp wood. If you have a house that dry, without moisture issues, then you are likely not going to find yourself with a dampwood termite problem. The most likely place you would find dampwood termites is if you have an outdoor woodpile that has been saturated with excessive amounts of water.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites are rare to Tennessee, but not unheard of. If you have an infestation, a swarm of termites, in your attic then they are likely a drywood termite. They could be a subterranean termite, but likely you would have noticed them prior to them reaching the attic.

Formosan Termites

Formosan termites are some of the most destructive of the termite species. They are not native to Tennessee and are rare to find here. If you think you have formosan termites then you will definitely want to contact your local pest control professional as well as your local agriculture department.
